Overview

The CDC UP Project Management Guide (PMG) provides guidance and advice to Project Managers throughout the life cycle of a project in the form of a step-by-step best practice approach to managing projects within the CDC and in-line with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Enterprise Performance Life Cycle (EPLC) Framework, and Federal and CDC standards, policies, and requirements.

To what level of detail any one section of the PMG is applied to any particular project is ultimately at the discretion of the project manager who is ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of project results. However, the overarching themes, practices, and processes outlined within the PMG are good, fundamental, project management practice that is applicable to all projects (CDC, non-CDC, IT, non-IT, large, and small).

The PMG encompasses requirements of CDC's Information Resources (IR) Governance processes, the HHS Enterprise Performance Life Cycle (EPLC) Framework, and other internal and external requirements

The PMG defines a clear approach to successful project delivery through a consistent and repeatable integration of practices and processes that comply with Federal regulations and policies, industry and government best practices, and PHIN and CDC standards including Goals Management, Security Certification and Accreditation, Privacy Impact Assessment, Enterprise Architecture, Procurement and Contracts, Project Management, and Capital Planning and Investment Control that any project can use to structure, track, and manage their activities and deliverables.
