This three hour training module provides a comprehensive overview of regulations applicable to packaging and shipping patient specimens and cultures that are classified as hazardous materials. Lectures and exercises will be used to provide instruction on complying with international, federal, and local transportation regulations. Numerous examples of acceptable practices will be provided. The employers responsibilities for training and documentation of training will be explained.

TARGET AUDIENCE: This intermediate-level program is appropriate for phlebotomists, laboratorians, managers, and other laboratory personnel with responsibilities for packaging and shipping specimens and cultures. MATERIALS: This instructional module may be delivered to a small group or used as individual study. The program materials are available online. (Presentation, practice exercises, post test, and evaluation) When used as a group-study, a computer with Internet access and equipped with audio and LCD projector capability is needed.
