2009 H1N1 Flu Legal Preparedness

Information on legal issues, resources, and related matters relevant to the current swine flu outbreak, including federal, state, local, and international legal actions taken in response to the outbreak is located at H1N1 Flu.

H1N1 Policy Barriers

The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), funded by CDC's Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response, have completed assessments of legal and other policy barriers, encountered by public health officials responding to the influenza A(H1N1) epidemic. The final reports include findings about the extent to which policies inhibited response and about specific federal, state, and local policies that could be addressed to improve the public health response to future events. The reports also suggest promising practices and opportunities for additional federal, state, and local collaboration to improve or address policies that influence public health response.  The ASTHO report is posted at http://www.astho.org/Programs/Infectious-Disease/H1N1/ and the NACCHO report is posted at http://www.naccho.org/topics/H1N1/index.cfm.

Legal Resources for TB Control

In consultation with the National Tuberculosis Controllers Association (NTCA), CDC's Public Health Law Program and Division of Tuberculosis Elimination have developed and sponsored development of new resources state and local TB professionals may use to assess and potentially improve use of law to control TB. All are available in the NTCA website.

Visit the TB control page for more information and access to available resources.
