The following material provides a general overview of selected legislation, ordinances, policies, and regulations that address methamphetamine, the clean up of methamphetamine laboratories, and the public health risks associated with chemical exposure to methamphetamine ingredients.  Listed by jurisdiction in alphabetical order.
  • Federal.   H.R. 798 entitled the Methamphetamine Remediation Research Act of 2005.  A bill authorizing research by the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institute of Standards and Technology on how best to clean former meth labs and to set guidelines on who should be responsible for the clean up of the meth laboratories.

  • Alaska.   HB59.   An act relating to the evaluation and cleanup of sites where certain controlled substances may have been manufactured or stored, and establishing the basic standards and requirements for the cleaning and repair of former drug lab sites.   • Minnesota.   HF 1989   A bill to strengthen penalties for the sale of methamphetamine and its precursors. The bill authorizes police officers to place children found in a methamphetamine production environment in protective custody, and requires that children taken into protective custody undergo health screening assessments.   • Washington.   SB 6478   An act regulating the wholesale and retail transactions of excessive quantities of ephedrine products for potential use in the illegal production of methamphetamine.
