Abstract
A study was made to document and evaluate effective techniques for the control of potential health hazards of farmers due to noise exposure. By video taping the work activities of farmers, an attempt was made to evaluate the exposure of the workers to excessive noise levels. The procedures for conducting video exposure monitoring for noise exposures were discussed, with particular attention given to agricultural workers. A video recording system was used to record the worker's activity while a direct reading instrument is placed on the worker. A data logger was used to store the data from the direct reading instrument, and the data logger's internal clock was synchronized with the video camera's on screen clock. Data from the data logger were analyzed using a personal computer program, and converted to a graphical representation, which could be overlaid onto the activity video recording. The sound level meter, video equipment, data loggers, and personal computer hardware and software and other equipment were described. The necessary steps for collecting data, transferring the data to a central personal computer, and video recording the work activity were described.
