Biography

Donald A. Mydlowski currently serves as the Program Director for the Food and Living Environment Section of Environmental Health Services at the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has worked for the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services and private industry and has been in the Environmental Public Health profession in various managerial and non-managerial capacities for over 25 years.

Don is also a Registered Environmental Health Specialist with the National Environmental Health Association; 2003 Environmental Health Achievement Award recipient from the Colorado Environmental Health Association and has served on state, federal, and local environmental and public health boards. Currently he serves on the Legislative and Clean-up Steering Committee for the Methamphetamine Task Force of El Paso and Teller Counties, the Colorado Lead Coalition, and is the PACE EH Chairman for the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment

He holds a Master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado, and Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and Public Health from Michigan State University.

Leadership Development Opportunities

The Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute has been an awe-inspiring experience. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I have been honored to be a part of. I have challenged my abilities and expertise and am now utilizing the systems thinking approaches and other lessons learned in all of my administrative and managerial responsibilities. I learned from everyone around the country that we all are on one mission, to "Protect Environmental Public Health".

It is with my friends, colleagues, and fellows that I have been with over the past year that we celebrate our profession by looking upon this experience as a foundation to lead and mentor other environmental health professionals in the future. Leadership is a trait we all possess. We are all "champions" for Environmental Public Health. Let us now apply our leadership knowledge, skills, and experience to move the profession forward in the coming years to promote environmental public health excellence in our communities. I say, "Thank You" again to all faculty, mentors, coaches, staff, and fellows at the Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute for a wonderful experience.
