Biography

Michael Godwin currently serves as the Environmental Supervisor for the Nassau County Health Department, in Nassau County, Fl.  He began his career in 1999 as a field inspector for the Nassau County Health Department.   In 2003 he accepted the contracted position with Department of Environmental Protection for regulating and monitoring underground petroleum storage tanks.  After one year he was promoted to Environmental Supervisor for the Nassau County Health Department.  Over the last 9 years, Michael Godwin has sought additional knowledge, skills and abilities as well as multiple certifications, which led to his current position of Environmental Health Supervisor.

He was awarded a Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences from Valdosta State University in 1999.

Leadership Development Opportunities

The EPHLI has allowed personal and professional development.  At first I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  The EPHLI Institute has challenged my abilities to think through a problem and look for solutions using a systematic approach and various modeling techniques.  Through the MBTI, the SKILLSCOPE 360 survey, and the Change Style Indicator I am now much more aware of my own strengths and weaknesses and how to use each of them as an asset.  Not only I have I learned new concepts on how to approach problems and personalities and new ways of looking at thought and action processes; I have learned how important community partnerships can be. The EPHLI has given me a valuable new set of tools that, with practice, will certainly help me face the challenges of this and future problems.  The most important role I have seen as a leader is to be a mentor to those who work for me.
