Biography

Gayle Guidash has been the Director for the Environmental Health and Preparedness Division in the Pinellas County Health Department since April of 2008. The Division consists of the following programs: Petroleum Storage Tank Compliance and Cleanup, Community Environmental Health (Institutional Food, Tanning, Biomedical Waste/Body Piercing, Group Care, Mobile Home Parks, Indoor Air Quality, Lead Program), Water/OSTDS Programs (Pools, Well Surveillance, Beach Monitoring, On Site Sewage and Nuisances), Child Care Licensing and Public Health Preparedness (Syndromic Surveillance, Emergency Response, Special Needs Shelters, H1N1).

 

Gayle was previously a Public Health Preparedness Planner and conducted both planning, training and preparedness response operations for the Department. She began her career as an Environmental Specialist with the Health Department, doing regulatory inspections and investigations. She started at the Health Department in 1991.

 

Gayle received her Master's Degree in Epidemiology at the University of South Florida in 1997. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Tampa in 1990. She also graduated from the Public Health Leadership Institute of Florida, Class Nine, and the Florida Emergency Management Academy, Class Three.

 

Leadership Development Opportunities

I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent in the Environmental Public Health Leadership Institute. The journey gave me both time for self reflection and self discovery, and it has allowed me to be reenergized in my work. Too often people are committed to a "job", but learning about strategies and nuances that will help me lead have ignited my passion, not only for myself-but in turn to try to guide and mentor those around me.

 

I chose a project that many thought was best to be ignored. I truly hope that my efforts build a strong bridge in this community.
