Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program
About the Program
Modern public health practice requires the increased development and use of sophisticated electronic systems to facilitate communication and data exchange among public health personnel at the local, state, and federal levels.
The goal of the Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program (PHIFP) at CDC is to provide the training and experience for its participants to effectively apply computer and information science and technology to real public health problems, including the ability to lead and manage all aspects of the design, development and implementation of public health information systems.
To fulfill this goal, the Public Health Informatics Fellowship Program provides a unique training experience. Examples are as follows:
- Training in both informatics and public health
- Assignment to teams involved in research and development of crucial CDC/ATSDR information systems
- Opportunity to lead one or more major projects during fellowship period
- Experience needed to develop, evaluate, implement, and manage new public health information systems, as well as adapt and support existing systems
