Continuous NHANES Web Tutorial - Survey Design Factors (Web-based)
Course Number: WB2006
The Survey Design Factors course will provide an overview of the design features for the Continuous NHANES samples, as well as how to correctly account for these design features in analyses. The Sample Design module describes the complex sampling design of NHANES, which includes multi-stage, unequal probability, and cluster sampling methods. This module also explains how to specify sampling parameters in an analysis. The Weighting module describes how NHANES weights are calculated to take into account survey nonresponse, oversampling, post-stratification, and sampling error. More importantly, this module teaches how to select the correct weights for an analysis. The Variance Estimation module introduces methods to calculate variance estimates and degrees of freedom. This course will provide analysts who are new to NHANES with an in-depth knowledge of the survey's sampling and weighting procedures and basic tools for calculating variance estimates.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This course was targeted to a broad range of NHANES users - public health and other government staff involved in NHANES analyses research and education community analysts who use NHANES for scientific studies or education purposes public health and medical professionals who use NHANES data for planning, policy making or public health programs and other users of NHANES statistics or groups interested in NHANES.
