Continuous NHANES Web Tutorial - Preparing an Analytic Dataset (Web-based)

The Preparing an Analytic Dataset course demonstrates how to create an NHANES dataset for analysis from locating the variables to include, downloading and extracting data files from the NHANES website, appending and merging datasets, cleaning and recoding data for defined conditions, formatting and labeling variables, and saving it as a permanent dataset.

TARGET AUDIENCE: This course was targeted to a broad range of NHANES users – public health and other government staff involved in NHANES analyses research and education community analysts who use NHANES for scientific studies or education purposes public health and medical professionals who use NHANES data for planning, policy making or public health programs and other users of NHANES statistics or groups interested in NHANES

MATERIALS: Web browser with Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in installed and connected to the internet. Adobe Flash plug-in and speakers recommended, but not required.

PREREQUISITES: This modules assume some knowledge of statistics and statistical software and programming, such as:
• Basic knowledge and skills in statistical analyses (e.g., ability to run frequently used descriptive and reference statistics, and correctly interpret the results, and
• Basic knowledge and skills in SUDAAN, SAS or Stata statistical software.
