The Self-Study STD ModuleGenital Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) is a web-based training course designed to guide clinicians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HSV. This training module is based on the STD curriculum developed by the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers.

After completing this course you will be able to:

 

1.           Describe the epidemiology of genital HSV infection in the U.S.

2.           Describe the pathogenesis of genital HSV.

3.           Discuss the clinical manifestations of genital HSV infection.

4.           Identify the common methods used in the diagnosis of genital HSV infection.

5.           Discuss the management of genital HSV infection.

6.           Summarize appropriate prevention counseling messages for genital HSV infection.

7.           Describe partner management for patients with genital HSV infection.

 

Target Audience

 

The Self-Study STD ModuleHSV is intended for the following clinicians in primary care settings who desire a basic introduction to STD diagnosis and management:

 

         Nurses

         Nurse practitioners

         Nurse-midwives

         Physician assistants

         Physicians

 

Continuing Education

Students completing the Self-Study STD ModuleHSV can earn continuing education in one of the following categories:

Continuing Medical Education (CME)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Education designated for Non-Physicians:

Non-physicians will receive a certificate of participation.

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is accredited as a provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

This activity provides 1.2 contact hours.

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

The CDC has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, VA 22102. The CDC is authorized by IACET to offer 0.1 ANSI/IACET CEU's for this program.
