Partners in Information Access for Public Health Professionals
FACT SHEET
Project Goal
To provide public health professionals with timely, convenient access to information
resources that can help them do their jobs more effectively.
Project Partners
- Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO)
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO)
- National Library of Medicine (NLM)
- National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM)
Objectives
- Increase awareness and use of NLM, NN/LM and CDC distributed learning resources
among public health professionals.
- Increase awareness and use of public health and their needed resources among
NN/LM members.
- Assist public health professionals to obtain the hardware/software and the Internet connections
and satellite reception needed for effective access to information resources.
- Train public health professionals to use the technology required for effective
access to information resources.
- Train public health professionals to identify and use pertinent information
resources and services.
Major Elements of the Project
Awareness
- Publicize the project through appropriate publications.
- Present/exhibit on the project at public health professional meetings.
- Produce a multimedia product that demonstrates the value of the project.
Connections
- Facilitate connections to the Internet for public health departments and professionals.
Training
- Provide training for NN/LM network librarians in resources useful to public health
professionals.
- Provide training for public health professionals in the use of technology to identify
and access relevant information resources.
- Provide training for students in academic public health programs in relevant information
resources.
